Ian joined Ponteland for the 2012 season moving from Greenside. At the start of 2013 took 6 for 14 against Backworth and finished with 24 wickets in the title winning season.

2015 saw Ian play regularly in the Eagles in Division I and his 17 wickets set a new mark for the side for wickets in a season.

Left the club in 2016 to play at Seaton Burn, returning in 2018. Took 7-34 for the First Eleven against Tillside in 2019, the first time a spinner had taken 7 in a game since 1994 and only the 4th 7-for in First Eleven since over limits started in 2000.

Stopped playing regularly at the end of the 2021 season but in his first appearance in 2022 at the end of May took 6 for 8 against Swalwell, his best figures for the side, returning to action on the August Bank Holiday against Backworth Ian took 6-39 making it 12-47 for the season in 2 matches ! Returned to full time action in 2024
